Ringer Picked Up For a Full Season

The CW drama series “Ringer,” which sees Sarah Michelle Gellar playing twins, has received a full season order.

The new CW shows “The Secret Circle” and “Hart of Dixie,” which stars “OC” actress Rachel Bilson, were also picked up for whole seasons, the network announced on Wednesday, October 12.

“We believe in the creative strength of these dramas, and by giving them back nine orders we can give our audience the chance to enjoy complete seasons of all three of them,” Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW, said in a statement.

“With compelling storylines, engaging characters and tremendous buzz, we firmly believe that ‘Hart of Dixie,’ ‘Ringer’ and ‘The Secret Circle’ can become signature series for The CW, the kind of top-notch shows that are synonymous with our brand,” he added.

“Ringer” debuted on the CW network on September 13 and was watched by some 2.74 million people, earning a 1.2 rating among adults aged 18 to 49.

Viewership has since dropped – Tuesday’s episode was watched by about 1.7 million people and earned a 0.8 rating, which marked a rebound from last week’s rating of 0.6.

The show is Gellar’s first regular television project since “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” the series that made her famous, ended in 2003.

The actress plays Bridget, a recovering addict who goes on the run after witnessing a murder. After her estranged and wealthy twin, Siobhan, disappears mysteriously, Bridget assumes her sister’s identity and quickly learns that her sister had her own shocking secrets. “Ringer” also stars Ioan Gruffudd, Kristoffer Polaha and Nestor Carbonell, who appeared on ABC’s hit show “LOST.”

Other new shows picked up for full seasons include NBC comedies “Up All Night” and “Whitney,” CBS sitcom “2 Broke Girls” and FOX series “New Girl.” NBC shows “Free Agents” and “The Playboy Club” were canceled after the airing of a handful of episodes, which earned low ratings.

Jason Dohring, aka Veronica Mars jerk-turned-good guy Logan Echolls, has booked a recurring role on the CW’s upcoming thriller Ringer.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Dohring will play Mr. Carpenter, a high school teacher at Juliet’s (Zoey Deutch) school, as first reported by EW.

Ringer stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as troubled twins Bridget and Siobhan, who both have a bounty on their heads. Juliet is the step-daughter of Siobhan and Andrew Martin (Ioan Gruffudd), who returns home from boarding school and winds up attending a new school where Mr. Carpenter sees potential in her.

Dohring’s credits include Moonlight and episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Lie to Me.

Ringer, which also stars Lost’s Nestor Carbonell, premieres Sept. 13 on the CW.

Sky Living has bought the UK rights to Ringer, the US drama that marks Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to a leading TV role for the first time since 2003.

The 13-part series stars Gellar as recovering alcoholic Bridget, a woman on the run who takes over her identical twin sister Siobhan’s life after she mysteriously disappears – only to find out she was also leading a dark and dangerous existence.

Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd plays Siobhan’s husband, who becomes suspicious of his new wife’s behaviour.

The BSkyB-owned entertainment channel has signed a multi-year deal with CBS Studios International to air the show in the UK soon after its debut on US network CW on 13 September.

Ringer is the first starring role for Gellar, 34, in a TV show since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended after seven series in 2003.

“Securing Ringer exclusively for Sky Living demonstrates yet again our commitment to owning the very best in primetime US drama,” said Louisa Forsyth, acquisitions manager at BSkyB.

“Ringer is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated new shows of the season, by Sarah Michelle Gellar’s avid global fanbase and critics, as well as eager new viewers,” added Stephen Tague, senior vice-president for Europe of CBS Studios International.
