Jason Dohring, aka Veronica Mars jerk-turned-good guy Logan Echolls, has booked a recurring role on the CW’s upcoming thriller Ringer.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Dohring will play Mr. Carpenter, a high school teacher at Juliet’s (Zoey Deutch) school, as first reported by EW.

Ringer stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as troubled twins Bridget and Siobhan, who both have a bounty on their heads. Juliet is the step-daughter of Siobhan and Andrew Martin (Ioan Gruffudd), who returns home from boarding school and winds up attending a new school where Mr. Carpenter sees potential in her.

Dohring’s credits include Moonlight and episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Lie to Me.

Ringer, which also stars Lost’s Nestor Carbonell, premieres Sept. 13 on the CW.

Sky Living has bought the UK rights to Ringer, the US drama that marks Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to a leading TV role for the first time since 2003.

The 13-part series stars Gellar as recovering alcoholic Bridget, a woman on the run who takes over her identical twin sister Siobhan’s life after she mysteriously disappears – only to find out she was also leading a dark and dangerous existence.

Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd plays Siobhan’s husband, who becomes suspicious of his new wife’s behaviour.

The BSkyB-owned entertainment channel has signed a multi-year deal with CBS Studios International to air the show in the UK soon after its debut on US network CW on 13 September.

Ringer is the first starring role for Gellar, 34, in a TV show since Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended after seven series in 2003.

“Securing Ringer exclusively for Sky Living demonstrates yet again our commitment to owning the very best in primetime US drama,” said Louisa Forsyth, acquisitions manager at BSkyB.

“Ringer is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated new shows of the season, by Sarah Michelle Gellar’s avid global fanbase and critics, as well as eager new viewers,” added Stephen Tague, senior vice-president for Europe of CBS Studios International.

Fantasy feature The Secret of Moonacre will bypass cinemas and instead be released on DVD on September 2 by distributor Rialto Entertainment.

The $US27 million film was produced by local ScreenACT boss Monica Penders and Screen Queensland’s head of development and production Meredith Garlick.

It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008 before being released in the UK and other major territories last year, grossing $US6.38 million around the world according to Box Office Mojo.

The film is based on the novel The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge and stars Ioan Gruffudd, Dakota Blue Richards and Tim Curry.

It follows 13 year old Maria Merryweather, who is forced to leave her luxurious London life after her father’s death to go and live with an eccentric uncle she didn’t know she had at Moonacre Manor.

She discovers that she is the last Moon Princess and must overcome her family’s pride in order to unearth the secrets of the past before the 5000th moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the sea forever.
